ABOUT WAYNE WONDER
Born Von Wayne Charles in Buff Bay, Portland, Jamaica, Wayne’s musical journey began in church and Sunday school, where singing became the foundation of his artistry. Inspired by his mother’s church vocals and driven by a natural passion for music, he quickly developed a sound that would later become internationally recognized. Early in his career, Wayne worked with legendary producer King Tubby before recording with some of Jamaica’s most respected producers, including Dave Kelly, Tony Kelly, Donovan Germain of Penthouse Records, Bobby Digital, Sly & Robbie, Don Corleon, Steelie & Cleevie, and Steve “Lenky” Marsden. During the 1990s, Wayne built a strong reputation with a string of reggae and dancehall hits including “Joyride,” “Bashment Girl,” and “Keep Them Coming.” While he initially gained attention covering popular international songs, Wayne soon committed himself to writing and performing original music, a decision that helped shape his lasting career and authentic sound.
In 2002, Wayne released what would become one of reggae’s most iconic songs, the global smash hit “No Letting Go.” Powered by the legendary Diwali Riddim produced by Steve “Lenky” Marsden, the single became an international crossover success and remains a staple in reggae and mainstream music culture today. The success of “No Letting Go” propelled Wayne’s Atlantic Records debut album, No Holding Back, into worldwide recognition.
